The Police Department has requested copies of statements for a customer that may be involved in fraud activities. Can we provide them? What about privacy issues?

Answer:

They should be providing you with an official request such as a subpoena. Without that, absent this being supporting documentation to a SAR they have access to, you could be violating rights and damaging their case. If they obtain evidence illegally, it can be thrown out. Then it can't be used at all. They're taking a dangerous shortcut if they really want this and need it.
