Providing Customer with Copies of CTRs

Answered by:

Question:
We have a customer who is currently being audited. He is requesting copies of approximately 70 Currency Transaction Reports that we filed on him. Are we allowed to provide copies of CTRs to our customer?
Answer:

Providing copies of CTRs is not prohibited.

It would have been nice if the customer had had the foresight to ask for the copies at the time they were being made. But then that would suppose that he knew he would be audited, and that's not likely.

You certainly can legally provide the copies; there is no rule that compels you to, however -- other than the customer service "rule." If there is going to be considerable research time involved, you might want to discuss your fee for the file search before committing to do it.
