Real differences between CD and IRA

Answered by:

Question:
What is the difference between a Certificate of Deposit and an Individual Retirement Account?
Answer:

An IRA is an account and a CD is a product. While financial institutions typically just offer CDs products to IRA account holders, a person can open a IRA account at a brokerage house, like Schwab, and have a mixture of stock, bonds, CDs and mutual funds in their IRA account.
