Same TIN for Other Accounts?

Answered by:

Question:
When a customer signs a W9 for one account verifying the TIN, can that TIN be entered on other accounts for the same customer without another W9?
Answer:

Yes, the rule of thumb is one set of W-9 certifications per customer, not per account. Note that many signature cards incorporate the W-9s required certifications. If yours do and the customer signs a new signature card each time an account is opened, then he has automatically updated his certifications.
