SAR for Fraudulent Money Order Deposit

Answered by:

Question:
A member deposited a fraudulent money order for $925.00 and the next day made another money order deposit for $925.00.. does this need an SAR?
Answer:

Any SAR you would file for those two transactions would be optional, given the total amount involved. If you have a suspect identified, the trigger amount for required filing is any amount of $5,000 or more; if you don't have a suspect, the dollar trigger is $25,000.
