They can be. I have interviewed several convicted bank robbers and have found that in some cases guards were a deterrent and in other cases, they weren’t. If you decide to employ guards, do your homework to make sure they are properly trained and that they understand their role. If they are to be a deterrent, they need to be visible, their schedule/movements need to be unpredictable, and they need a clear understanding of their post orders.
