Selecting the right CRA Assessment Area

Question:
Must an Assessment Area consist of whole counties?
Answer:

No, a bank can adjust its Assessment Area(s) to the area it can reasonably be expected to serve. Too many banks annex entire counties, which can lead to an unrealistic Assessment Area and inflated performance standards. This makes it more difficult to pass a CRA exam.
