No one item of body language ever provides you the entire story to someone’s guilt or innocence. As we weren’t present for the questioning, we cannot tell you exactly what was happening. What you seem to be describing is known as the liar’s pick. Essentially a person feels strained when being questioned. To release the tension, they are feeling they begin to pick at their clothing. The times they start to do that is when you are asking questions, they find intimidating or fearful in answering.
