Talkative Teller

Answered by:

Question:
What are the steps to take when a banker teller has been accused of discussing bank information outside of the bank? What information should not be disclosed to anyone?
Answer:

Whether your institution calls it a Code of Conduct or a Confidentiality Policy, one of the first topics that should be included in every institution's in-processing of new employees is a copy of the bank's policy on confidentiality. It should be plain and readily understood, with no room for interpretation: information learned as part of bank employment is not to be shared outside the bank. Customers of the bank should never be discussed outside the bank, or with other customers. The policy should be acknowledged in writing, and the employee should state in that acknowledgment that he or she understands that infractions can result in disciplinary action, including immediate termination.
