Why you can pay a postdated check

Question:
Our customer wrote a post-dated check and it got paid before its date. Don’t you think we should refund the customer?
Answer:

No. The reason is because the UCC says that a check can be properly payable, even before its date, unless the customer gives the bank reasonable advance notice that he’s written a post-dated check and doesn’t want it paid before its date.
