Are we suppose to return ACHs that come in to a customer's account for a non-customer? We currently return ones that we become aware of before they hard post to the account but I didn't know if there is a Reg that governs it or if it's just bank policy.

Three checks - all the same amount and same serial number - were cashed by our customer and subsequently returned to our bank as unable to locate. The prosecuting attorney is asking for a definition of unable to locate and I am having difficulty locating this information. Please advise how I can respond - without this information the prosecuting attorney doesn't feel he can win the case.

Are paying banks still required to notify a depository bank of a large dollar return?
If so, are the requirements of these notifications:
1) Any check in the amount of $2,500.00 or more.
2) Notice must be sent in time for the Depository Bank to have received it by 4:00pm (local time) on the second business day following the banking day on which the checks was presented to the paying bank.
