We are thinking about creating a specialized marketing effort directed toward parents of young children. Everything I read seems to indicate that people with children up to age 12 (or even older) are trying to do something to help with the future cost of a college education. I am thinking of creating a direct mail piece and sending it to our membership. What do you think? Is this a good idea?

We are going to introducing added benefits to one of our existing Senior (50+) Accounts, therefore creating a new account that will be charged a monthly maintenance fee of $4. I've been asked to consider issuing a direct mail letter to our existing account members and include a "live check" of $5. Once they cash the check then they would automatically be enrolled in the new account. My question is this -- has anyone done this? Did customers think they were getting something extra, or did they think the bank was trying to pull a fast one on them? Personally, I do not want to do a live check mailing, especially since most customers do not read the enclosed material and we are talking about an older generation -- they are more likely to cash the check without realizing the consequences.

The holding company my bank is an affiliate of also owns an insurance agency in our market area. I recently saw a marketing brochure of theirs (my bank's Marketing Director acted as a consultant on the piece) that references that my bank and they are corporate partners. In the brochure are the types of insurance they sell, to include life, and the products they offer such as IRA's. There are no FDIC disclosures or NDIP disclosures in the brochure. Do we have a regulatory problem?
