FTC Issues New Standard ID Theft Affidavit
On February 2, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced it has developed a report that will enable a consumer to send information on the use of stolen ID using just one standard form. It is to be used where a new account was opened in the victim's name. They make it clear that if someone made unauthorized charges to an existing account, the consumer should call the bank or company to find out what to do. The form (5 pages) is available at www.consumer.gov/idtheft or by calling 877-THEFT (877) 438-4338.
