Up on the Roof in Texas
How many Texas Bankers out there charge a continuous overdraft fee for being the overdraft for a continuing number of days?

For example, if I pay 5 checks at $100.00 each for a total of $500.00 on one day and charge you $28.00 per check in paid check (NSF) fees $140.00, and you remain in the overdraft for 5 days, we charge you a fee of 4.50 per day as a continuous overdraft charge of $22.50. I know of a few banks that have this fee but I want to know if this is common in Texas.

Thanks for your input.

I have not worked for a bank that does that, however, I have "heard" this seems to be common place at the "Big Boy Banks"
It's tough enough to clear just ODs, I can't imagine explaining the additional fees to customers.

I know several banks in our market do charge the daily fee, both local and "Chain" banks, and small and bigger.

I think there is still disagreement on whether this is allowed under Texas Statute - -
Somewhere in the recesses of my mind is something that makes me think maybe Karen Neeley (IBAT General Counsel) had a legal opinion years ago that said it was not allowed. But evidently the state examiners have never made this an issue.

We charge $30 for every ten consecutive days the account is overdrawn. This is in addition to our normal $30 per item fee.
