I can't seem to find a definition of "currency exchange" for the CTR. If a business deposits more than $10k in cash AND exchanges $600 in hundreds for $600 in twenties, is that a "currency exchange" as well as a "deposit"? If so, the $600 would be included in the "cash in", but would it also be in the "cash out"?

I always thought "currency exchange" was the exchange of foreign for domestic currency.

That is an example of a currency exchange - exchanging denominations of bills. I believe your CTR would be completed for the amount of the deposit plus the 600 as the total cash in, no cash out because the 600 is under the reporting threshold. Mark the box for deposit and mark the box for currency exchange.

Look at the CTR form instructions. It provides definitions and examples of currency exchanges.

The instructions do not define "currency exchange" and the examples only talk about exchanging dollars for euros. That's why I was asking. At any rate, thanks for the responses.

Is there a threshold for reporting the cash in or cash out side? For example, $10k transaction with $600 exchange of denominations. Cash in = $10,600 Cash out = ???? Should it be $600 or is that amount below a threshold amount? A threshold amount of $1,000 is discussed with MSBs.

You include on the CTR the cash amounts aggregating more than $10k. In your example, you would report the $10,600 cash in and nothing out because it is below the thresh hold.
