Ditto Bones!
I remember the frustration of getting pregnant the first time. Good Luck!
QueenChop'd - The couple plus both sets of parents paid for the invitro. The mom lost several babies before they finally carried to almost term. They'd love to try again - doctors say it would most likely be much easier because they have a history of what worked and what didn't, but I don't know if they will. The twins are just so cute, and we're all so happy for them.

This may be letting an elephant enter the room here but... imho, having lots of children is a selfish act on the part of the parents. I can't watch that program where she's on what, her 18th pregnancy. Please, the Bible doesn't tell you to procreate like a dang rabbit. You'll never convince me that some or all of multiple children don't miss the time and attention of their parents...or that the parents can give them everything they need either in quantity or quality. People who have children to have a specific sex or because they just miss having a baby should be...well, neutered imho. The planet doesn't have enough room for the population to keep growing at this rate. And who's going to pay the price? The children that all these people must have.
(Please note, this rant is not aimed at any poster here. I'm still just really enraged by the octuplets mother. *Bones, my congrats too. Take care of yourself and the precious cargo you're carry. *)

Seems to me we are making a lot of assumptions based on negative media. If they were reporting how wonderful it was and how she is keeping quiet for privacy reasons--basically putting a positive spin on it, I think people in general might take it better. It does appear to be irresponsible, but then having two and carrying 6 more [Jon & Kate] seemed irresponsible to me and the world loves them.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line

Ah, come on Truff, Didn't you ever watch The Waltons? It was idyllic! My dad was one of 10 kids during the great depression. Everyone was poor but they lived on a family farm. They had plenty of food, clothes, and friends. They also had plenty of hard work and responsibility. Plenty meaning sufficient for their needs - not the designer over-abundance that would pass for plenty today. I have a friend with 6 children and she was born to do this. It really depends on the folks involved and their devotion to their family. This is in no way defending the choice of Octuplet mother, but I sometimes wonder if kids would be more responsible today if they had the large families of yesteryear. Mom and Dad couldn't devote all their time and attention to one child and spoil them - they had to spread it around.

Grandmom says she's gone when the daughter gets home. What happens then?

She said, "seemed like I got pregnant every time Bright hung his overalls on the bedpost." They had 11.

As long as you can take care of them and provide for them, I guess the choice is your's.
With world population being what it is today, I have to wonder about proper stewardship of natural resources, but that's a different thread, and not a discussion I want to get involved in.

Fox is reproting that she has checked out of the hospital and is heading home to her other 6 kids that her parents are now caring for. She does not want any additional details divulged, she wants it to be private, so said her publicist. Huh? Who hires a publicist if they want privacy? Go figure

I think a lot of people have "an issue with" (as in, they want to be critical of) large families.

both parents are 1 of 8, we have 7, over 30 grandkids and over 20 great-grandkids on Dad's side, over 20 grandkids and 20 great grandkids on mom's...we certainly were never short of cousins to play with

I was watching the Josh Duggar gets married episode last night, and one of their vows was about letting God choose for them the size of their family and not them, and they specifically spoke about it later on how and why they added that in. It was interesting.

I'd just like to just comment that while it was normal and doable for our parents or grandparents, it's really not the norm in today's society, especially when it's artifically induced and not the will of God.
And I'm sorry, letting God dictate the size of your family does not, in my book anyway, equate to keep on having 'um 'cause you get pregnant every time he hangs his overalls on the bedpost.
God taught responsibility and respect for human life. I just don't think you can give 18 kids the time and energy that each one deserves in a situation like that. There comes a time, in my mind, when a responsible couple says, ok, we either stop or do something to prevent more babies. There are ways that the Church approves to do this.
Are there trade-offs where say three siblings will be thick as thieves for life because they learned to lean on each other when Mom was pregnant with the next six? Of course. I just don't think children should have to mother each other.
I can lead the elephant back out now if ya'll like.

I have never heard whether eight embryos were implanted or whether one of them split maybe into twins or triplets (which might explain why there are eight). Has anyone heard anyting on that? Maybe there were only 3-4 embryos and they then in turn split (which happens).

FYI, and ya probably don't care, but this was during a time when it was "normal and doable." They had their first child in 1925.
