If I was a young woman and saw that picture I'd get my tubes tied. How horrible.

Great article DQ, thanks for sharing it.

A while back I heard about a couple who adopted at least a dozen children (it could be more but I can't remember the figure) and receive government assistance for their care. They clip coupons and live a very frugile life to make their dollars stretch for the kids care. As a tax payer I am willing to pitch in to people like these, they are heroes providing love and a family to children who didn't have either.

Then you have this selfish, greedy, mentally disturbed woman. She decides to live out her fantasies of having her own baseball team and not only isn't she stopped...she's helped! Everyone in her life (doctor, parents, donor) had a hand in creating this mess and the rest of us are paying for it.

Aren't we all? I just saw where she is $50,000 in debt and receiving welfare and food stamps. So who is paying all these hospital bills for the 8 babies? She really is a nut case!!!!!

While I am stunned by the situation, it is up to each woman to decide how many, if any children she wants to bring into the world. We can't force a woman to have children and we can't force a woman not to have children.

However, if I were the Governor of California, I would offer to buy her a very nice home in another state and pay her moving expenses just to pass on the cost of raising these poor children to someone else.

Big Sis - while I agree with you, since she was on welfare and had in-vitro we're all paying for this. That doctor should be barred from practice.

I disagree. Children are a responsibility. People who don't recognize that do not deserve to have them. To have a doctor facilitate this woman having them under un-natural circumstances only exasperates the situation.

This whole thing makes me so angry. The bottom line is there are 14 children who are going to suffer emotionally and physically because of this woman's selfish desire for a big family.

I disagree.

Really? You think society should have veto rights over a woman's decision to bear children?

A student loan probably paid for that plastic surgery.

And I do think society should be allowed to tell a woman how many kids she can have if she is using welfare to support them.

Yes I disagree, Jokerman. I'm not naive enough to think we can have veto rights. But I think society facilitates stupidity and selfishness by supporting people who make their own needs. It's one thing to have programs that help people who loose their jobs or have some other 'qualifying' reason to need public assistance. I just don't count greed as one of those qualifiers.

I agree 100% there. But just because we've made mistakes building a welfare state doesn't mean we should go down the road of determining how many children people can have.

TR: What this woman did was completely irresponsible.

But we in this country have a right to privacy that keeps the government from dictating personal decisions on childbirth. China does that because they don't respect the rights of individuals and they are wrong to do so. One of the downsides of allowing people the freedom to make their own decisions is that some will make poor decisions.

One of the downsides of the welfare state is that we (taxpayers, not The One(tm)'s cabinet appointments) have to pay for those mistakes.

I am so sick of political correctness! mad We can't do this and we can't determine that. It seems all we can do is keep shelling out more and more to support the rest of this country. I stuggle to make the right choices but I'm forced to pay higher and higher taxes to support those who are too lazy or selfish to even give a rip beyond their own gratification. There have got to be limits. And if the first of those limits is saying, we the taxpayers are not going to pay beyond 'x' number of children per family, then by golly do it. Maybe that would make people like this woman stop and think.

Seriously, Jokerman, why can't limits be set? Why must we always worry about other people's welfare even at the expense of our own?

ok, rant over.

personally...i thinks she's a total quack

but the woman should have the right to do whatever she wants with her body and that includes having as many childres as she wants

but we...as a tax-paying society... should not have to pay a dime to help/enable her with this decision

I agree with miscuit-if she wants to have 50 kids and support them on her dime, God love her. Otherwise, forget it.

Once she starts selling off spare parts, she won't need state support anymore.
