The $500-per-worker credit for lower- and middle-income taxpayers that Obama outlined during his presidential campaign was scaled back to $400 during bargaining by the Democratic-controlled Congress and White House. Couples would receive $800 instead of $1,000. Over two years, that move would pump about $25 billion less into the economy than had been previously planned.

Officials estimated it would mean about $13 a week more in people's paychecks this year when withholding tables are adjusted in late spring. Next year, the measure could yield workers about $8 a week. Critics say that's unlikely to do much to boost consumption. ........

this means I can go out to lunch once a week more often!!!!

Don't forget about the $1,000 immediate energy rebate that will be paid for by the oil company windfall profits. That should be coming any day now.

Maybe the $13 will help offset the increased taxes I'll now be paying to California...

Pelosi's daughter was on Hannity(I think) last night - and she seems like a pretty cool chick.

Living in the land of Oz
For the latest in recession problems, listen to this. We live in a very rural area and our paper is delivered by car every morning by 6:30. Well, apparently this is costing too much so they are now going to mail our morning paper. I guess they are going to do this by dropping it off at the post office in the middle of the night. So, since my mail comes at 3:00 in the afternoone I will now get my morning paper at 3. And since there is no mail delivery on Sunday and yesterday was a holiday I will now get my Sunday, Monday, and today's paper in todsy's mail. Talk about old news!!! The people in town are still getting the mornint delivery. I haven't decide whether to cancel or not. They have an online edition which they are providing to us free of charge but how do you read an online paper while eating breakfast in the kitchen or as my husband like to do, read it in the bathroom? How crazy is this?

I don't like reading the paper online. This online version is not very user friendly. When you get to the bottom of the page you have to scroll the whole way back to the top to go to the next page. And I can't see my husband with a laptop. He struggles enough with a regular keyboard. LOL.

I don't look at the paper until in the evening anyway, so it would be fine for me.

$13/wk - WooHoo! we can go out to dinner! (Burger King of course - and only for the first year) wink

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
I cancelled my printed newspaper a long time ago and instead read the on-line version. Saves time and I don't feel I'm wasting either my money or my time or killing a forest for an item I sometimes read or read only part of.

Back on topic......

So are we down to $13/week because somebody's got to pay for all BO's trips around the country to announce or sign things? Florida, Chicago for Valentine's Day, Denver...I mean really, somebody tell the guy he won so he can use the Oval Office instead of burning fuel using the newly remodeled Air Force One. Does anybody really give a rip where he signs it? Seems like he could cross the aisle a lot easier if he was actually where the aisle is. Then maybe I'd get $14 instead of $13.

maybe $13.25. He's only been in office not quite a month Truff - give him the full 100 days to make it to $14.

Typical DEM, tells the rest of the US not to "Go to Vegas" be responsible, these are "tough times", BLAH BLAH BLAH, then hops of AF1 to fly all over God's creation.

Same Ole Same Ole BO BS.

Nope, no politics as usual here, This is New Gov't! BO Style!
