why would they?
They don't account for those who donate their used clothes to the Salvation Army, those who give money to cancer charities, or those who donate to United Way.

When you say "owed" do you mean in addition to what you owed that was already collected through payroll withholding? Or total tax liability. Total tax liability was way more than $1,000. But I got a refund because too much was withheld because withholding tables don't account for those who tithe. I always make sure to adjust my withholdings with my employer annually for just this reason, to adjust for my charitible giving. Does your employer not allow you to do so?

I personally don't know one person who tithes, from any religion.

So do you think IRS tables should be adjusted for tithing?
To me that just sounds ludacris - it assumes everyone tithes.

I personally don't know one person who tithes, from any religion. I used to be the treasurer for my church. Lots of people tithe, from my experience. Certainly nothing approaching a majority, but a significant number do. Maybe you're hanging out with the wrong crowd.

How does a church treasurer know the income of churchgoers?
And I didn't say people don't tithe. I said I personally don't know any.
I agree with you that the percentage would not approach the majority. So why would tax tables ever account for such an event?

To me that just sounds ludacris - it assumes everyone tithes. No, but the charitable contribution deduction should not be eliminated or greatly reduced, as is being proposed.

I really don't think CessnaFlyboy was advocating that they should account for it, he was just stating because he tithes the tables don't withhold the correct amount.
HR always questions my W-4, but they don't know that I tithe.
