#1347030 - 02/22/10 05:34 PM Teller tickets: Banking 101?

At every bank that I've ever worked at, all the of the teller tickets are pink (credit) and blue (debit).

I am working in a new environment where tickets are not only pink and blue, but pretty much every color in the rainbow; orange, yellow, green, purple, etc.

Is the pink/blue ticket pretty standard in the banking world? The explaination for the different colors is that it's easier fro the tellers to identify which ticket is which, but on the flip side, to me, it would seem easier if all tickets were pink and blue to know which ticket goes on top of which ticket.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone can think of any reason that we should go to the standard pink/blue I would appreciate that as well. I would like to'go to bat' to make all of the tickets uniform in color.

Almost all of our tickets appear to be pink for credit and no color for a debit. I think prior to a recent switch in entry processing the debits were blue.

Do the different colors tie to different transaction codes or are they random?

Never had pink, had yellow, blue, green and white.

I don't think it's an "across the board" standard. When I worked in branch banking, at one bank we didn't have teller tickets at all - you just processed the withdrawal or deposit ticket from the customer (both white). The GL transactions were yellow. The next bank had pink, blue and green for transactions (green indicated actual cash, either in or out) and yellow for miscellaneous transactions. When I worked for a credit union, there also were no teller tickets.

Personally, I wouldn't challenge the "status quo". That's the system they're using, that's what the staff is used to, it's what works for them. You'll just have to get used to the new way of doing things. smile

I too have worked with "no tickets", transitioned from paper to no tickets, and changed banks and went back to paper tickets. I use one bank where I don't need a deposit ticket, just my debit card swiped at teller station or ATM; I get a small receipt.

Maybe it's a geographical/regional thing - I've never had blue, green or yellow. I've only had pink and white.

Could depend upon what vendor is selling in your geographic area.

Orig. Anon. here:

There really seems to be no rhyme or reason to the colors, other than each kind of ticket has it's own color, for example:

Checking deposit: pink
Checking withdrawal: blue
Savings deposit: Yellow
Savings withdrawal: Green
Money Market deposit: orange
Money Market withdrawal: purple

ETC.

Am I working at a bank or at Candyland? smile

While you may think there is no rhyme or reason to the colors, I bet the tellers who have worked there for a while have associated the colors to the transaction they are processing. Changing the ticket colors would present alot of confusion for them and possible errors in there work.

Before trying to change a system that appears to be currently working for them, you might want to decide if this is a battle really worth fighting. Especially in the environment we are in now (meaning changing ticket colors involves re-ordering your entire ticket stock for the bank and can be costly depending on the number of branches you have). Management may deam this an unnecessary expense and nix it right away.

The first bank I worked for with proof work used pink for credits and blue for debits. Ladies first was the way we remembered credit over debit.

I second the changing of the color fear. The bank I am with currently changed ticket colors due to branch capture and we are having trouble with tellers pulling the wrong tickets. Never mind that the type of ticket is clearly written on each one. BIG training issue..

Im almost 100% positive I work at the same bank as the OP. Those were the exact colors for the last two years I was here, until a couple months ago where we got new tickets for everything.

Checking Deposit- Dark green
Checking Withdrawl- Light green
Savings Deposit- Dark Purple
Savings Withdrawl- Light purple

I miss the credit pink/debit blue rule. It was so much easier to train new tellers. Girls before boys (credits before debits)
