You definitely can't miss Navy Pier--so much to do and see! And while you're there, be sure to eat at Bubba Gumps. If you visit Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), make sure to ride the elevator to the Skydeck and enjoy the clear observation platforms. If you are afraid of heights, you will be properly freaked out.

But the glass ledge thingy at the Sears Tower is sooooo worth the trip. I'd make you a name tag like Pale says but then I'd have to join you and your friends each day to make sure you wore it Do go to Navy Pier, one of my favorites. I did ride that large farris wheel once and now there is a tethered hot air ballon ride there. Haven't tried that one yet, maybe this summer. Also as corny as it sounds the double decker tour bus is well worth the money, did that in the fall when sil and her hubby game in for Bears/Steelers game.

You must have Italian Beef from Portillos. Must. I think that they are only in Illinois and then 2 locations in CA. http://www.portillos.com/portillos/locations/Downtown location is: Portillo's - Chicago, Illinois 100 W. Ontario Chicago IL 60654 312-587-8910 Theme: 30's, 40's Gangster Buddy Guy's - my sister recommends. I have never been there myself, but she is a HUGE fan!

Anything off the beaten path I should see? Something that catches the local flavor? I have to admit, I like turning down side streets to see what's just out of sight. I especially recommend it when you're overseas - Rome, in particular!

Manny's Deli(mannysdeli.com)for huge cafeteria corned beef/pastrami sandwiches. A Chicago institution about a mile south of downtown (take cab). Very entertaining staff. Highly recommended by our foodie President.
Check out LTH.com for Chicago dining discussion boards.
