We need to file a CTR on bank customer; however, are not sure if we need to file on individual or multiple. Check was made to John and Joan; John endorsed and Joan brought check to bank and cashed it. Do we file the CTR on Joan (because she received the cash) or both because check was made payble to John and Joan? Thanks for your help.

This is how I would report---

Multiple Benefactors--John and Joan-----check is made payable to John AND Joan not John OR Joan.

Transactor--Joan

I run into this often and our teller trainer has had training with tellers on this.

Hope this helps.

That is how I would report as well. It is not logical to assume that either party gave up his/her rights to the funds represented by the check - and that certainly was not the intention of the party issuing the check. Both benefitted.
