Way, way south.

Just curious about who all works from home, who would like to, who has the option, etc. Seems like many more people are working from home, so I was curious about you all.

I fear if given the option to work from home on occasion, I would inevitabely show up at work one day in my underwear, not realizing I wasn't working from home that day.
The risks are too great.

We have a quite liberal policy on working from home, but I get distracted too easily to prefer it. Besides, I like to keep my home and work life separate. But I do appreciate the option - there are times when it is really helpful (like when you have to stay at home to meet the plumber, but have stuff you just gotta do!).

I also appreciate at it when my son is sick or has a doctor's appt. Work is too far to just run home and check on him.

I'd like to either work from home or be able to bring my dog into the office...I'd be happy with either.

Perhaps working from home would help cut back on the meetings and interruptions.

Although it increases the number of conference calls you have to participate in.

for the ones who work from home, what type of work do you do? I would love to work from home (while in my pjs, watching soaps)but need access to files and other things that are in files at the office!

I work from home two days a week (to be home with my 3 year old son) and have done so since I had him. I learned early on that I can't work in my pjs -- it is definitely a matter of getting your brain in "work mode", and comfy pjs don't facilitate that! I've had some interesting moments, like the time I was on the phone with an examiner while the cable guy, heater repair guy, two dogs, and wonder kid all decided they needed me at the same moment. Calgon!!!! Sure, there are moments of non-productivity, but who doesn't have those moments when they are physically in the office? I actually manage my time better now because I have to plan what I will work on at home. It makes me accomplish more during my hours in the office when I have full access to all my files. I mostly try to save my research and reading tasks for home. These days, there is always plenty to read up on ... besides BOL!!

HERE! I'm here!
|
I only work from home when I have to, when the kids are sick, or the babysitter is unavailable.
I don't have access to the banks network from home, so I take my audits that need to be stacked, I audit our employees training logs and organize them, or do audit reports, stuff that I wish I had time to do at the bank but can't seem to get to it. I'm allowed to take some stuff home, but I can't email anything with customer information on it to the bank, not even password protected or encoded, so I do reports and if I need to enter customer info into, I'll send it to the bank and code it so I know what to enter and where.
I've tried to take work home at night to try to get a jump on the week or whatever and that never happens. By the time I'm done with all the "at home work" I don't have the time or the energy to focus on "at work work".

I don't have the ability to work at home. I get so distracted. For example, I'm supposed to be cleaning my fridge.

I can work from home on occasion - like if I'm home with a sick kid or snowed-in. Otherwise, I have flex scheduling and every other week, I have a compressed schedule of 4 10-hour days with a day off during the week.
We have VPN so I can pretty much do the same things at home that I would in the office.
