I gave a gift of a bag of pennies. All of the pennies were taped together in rows, and layers between towels so they would not shake or make noise... made for one heck of a heavy box, but people kept grabbing it... wanting to know what could be so heavy but ligth at the same time, and yet make no noise and hoping it wasn't a huge concrete block.

It was a hit.

Until they had to untape all of the pennies. eek

out of the frying pan...
At an office party several years ago, one lady brought in a wrapped toilet plunger. That thing was dodged and dodged, until the person who finally ended up with it unwrapped it and found movie passes taped underneath.

My sister gifted a package of toilet paper that no one wanted until her son got it and unwrapped a gift card that was hidden inside. laugh

A rubber-band gun (not a gun made of rubber bands but a gun that shoots them).

A pretty kneeling Art-deco sytle bronze statue of a nude woman. About 18 inches high. She's sittin with her legs tucked underneath her with her arm up begind her head. Her chi chis lite up! That one got so many laughs.

A Talking Mr. Perfect doll. You know... the one that says things like, "Sure Honey I'll go shopping with you." or "Put your feet up, I'll cook dinner and do the homework". It was a hit with all of the moms.

I went to a tacky themed party last weekend so the gifts were also supposed to be tacky. I mean literally, someone wrapped a brick. Anyway, I think I had one of the funniest gifts (I gave it)...a butch-cut doll ehad from school, $ex toy cleaner, comdoms, and a pair of used candlesticks. the other pretty funy gift someone brought was a handful of dollar store g-strings.

My brother-in-law once gave a pair of gaudy christmas socks with a raffle ticket attached. The receiver ended up winning a Colorado ski trip off that raffle ticket!

I wish someone would invite me to one of these parties. Last Christmas, I received a bizarre gift from an older relative... a hollow ceramic owl. I am not a fan of birds and have no idea what I'm supposed to do with this thing. I intended to donate it to the church's white elephant sale this summer, but forgot to do so (out of sight out of mind). laugh

Way, way south.
Kinda off the topic, but weird nonetheless:

My co-worker's husband ran into his old high school girl friend and they struck up a conversation and he ended up inviting her over with her hubby to their house for dinner (kinda weird to me, but ok, maybe they were friends after they broke up).

Well, the woman and her hubby showed up for dinner bearing a gift for the host and hostess; a set of single pillow cases. Just a pair of medium quality beige pillow cases.

WTH is that?

maybe they were the pillow cases from the bed that his ex girlfriend conceived the child that her now husband is raising?

that would have been one [censored] of an ice breaker

We had a white elephant gift exchange at a bank ladies party last week - I got a visor, with the grey hair already sewn in. It's quite attractive...

My niece went to one earlier this month. She ended up with communion bread as her gift. Too funny!

We do a $5-10 gag gift thing, I was looking at the Obama chia pet but it was too expensive for our limit, so I found a christmas story leg lamp night light for $9! Pretty sure this one will be the winner!

those are very useful when dealing with irresponsible, uncooperative loan officers.

Speaking of hollow ceramic owls, I used to have one of those...but it was hollow because it was a bank! I loved it.

Oh, I forgot to mention that my hollow ceramic owl is about 4 feet tall. The mystery of the whole thing (to me) is why buy something like this for someone unless they have a "thing" for owls? I appreciated that I was remembered with a gift at all, don't get me wrong... it was just bizarre. laugh

Dip, if you really want this monstrosity (it's big and very ugly), let me know and I'll see about shipping it to ya! laugh
