I was thinking more of a wall type push-up (shove) and perhaps a couple flights of stairs....

You need to have two examiners with their faces on the floor and your hands on the back of their heads to make this work properly. There have been a room full of them next door to me for nearly a month, I'm a little cranky.

It's day 6! We've made it to almost the end of the first week. Is it still okay for everyone?

Sunday is the start of Week 2. So if you are doing pushups or planks or something else by week, get ready to increase the number or time on SUnday. If I think of it, I'll pop in here for a reminder.

Reminder: you don't have to do them all in one go. Some of us are farther along, strength-wise, than others. Split today up into 2 sets of 3 or 3 sets of 2. As the number gets higher, split them up into sets of 10 or 20.

We don't want anyone getting hurt, or discouraged.

Reached my first set goal (10) this morning and did two sets, the 2nd of which was very difficult to finish. Do I get extra credit if my 5 lb dog was climbing on my legs while I was doing my pushups?

My current routine is double the day + 2. Wayyy to tired to calculate how many that will be daily by the end of the year...and I don't think I want to know. May need to revise routine as the days progress.... eek

Forgot to do them yesterday, so I did 5 this morning and will do 6 tongiht.

My fiance is doing it too but I have somethgin to ask the group...

Isn't doing them fast easier and less a workout than doing them slow???

The finace drops and does them super quick, almost liek he is using the engergy from doing them to power the next ones (kinetic energy for the science nerds).

When I do them, I do them slower and exact, which seems liek more work and control for my muscles.

Faster is easier. On the otherhand, you can also be working different muscles (i.e. long vs short).

Dpi, someone up there ^^^^ (pages ago) said that if you do them fast you tone and slow you build strength. Or vice versa.

Also depends if they're fast and still in good form. If you drop and do a bunch of half-pushups in poor form, you're not doing much of anything for yourself.

Thanks, but you might want to get your eyes checked. But just wait until later in the year after doing all these push ups. smile

(At least that is what my wife is hoping)

Dip,

The slower you go, the more like planking it becomes...

I think slower is a better muscular workout. Your max at a slow pace will be lower than if you were doing them more quickly.

However, anytime you work your muscles at a rapid pace, you are looking more towards cardio. Are you gassed after doing them slowly?

Happy, Mr. Pushup King, would you agree that slower pushups might build muscle more quickly while faster pushups might be better for toning (if done properly)? Kind of like a weight vs reps thing?

So in other words, if Zak is tryign to bulk up, fast isn't the right way to do it. Ha! I WIN!!!

That is only if I am correct. I may not be.

If he is trying to bulk up, he needs to be doing low reps of high weights on various weight exercises. A pyramid workout is ideal. When I weighed 125, wrestling in college, the coach put me on a pyramid workout to help me bulk up. In a matter of months I was benching 150% of my weight and was building a lot of muscle, which has sadly disappeared and/or turned on me!!
