Do your personal bankers/customer service representatives accept cash deposits at their desks? In other words, do they have a teller drawer in their offices?

In the trees
I have worked at several institutions and it has been handled differently at each one. Currently, yes, our bankers have cash drawers at their desks. At one institution we had "runners" (tellers) that were supposed to watch for deposits at banker desks and run to pick them up. And at yet another institution, the banker would walk the deposit to teller row on behalf of the customer (while the customer was still at their desk) and make the deposit.

We didn't, but our CSRs also sold NDIPs so it wouldn't have been appropriate.

For those of you who that CSRs have drawers in their offices, do you allow them to make referrals to the Investment department?

From OCC Handbook at http://www.occ.gov/publications/publications-by-type/comptrollers-handbook/rnis1.pdf

"In no case should any employee, while located in the routine deposit-taking area, such as the teller window, make general or specific investment recommendations regarding nondeposit investment products, or accept orders for such products, even if unsolicited. Tellers and other employees who are not authorized to sell nondeposit investment products may only refer customers to individuals who are specifically designated and trained to assist customers interested in the purchase of such products."

Thanks for your input. That is exactly what I read. Just trying to get a feel for what others are doing. Interpretation of these issues can be different between banks.

This can be a slippery slope. Tellers are permitted to make referrals, but you must be VERY careful to ensure they are not providing information on the NDIPs. They can refer a customer and they can receive compensation for the referral based on the customer keeping an appointment. They cannot be incented based upon whether the referral results in the sale of a product.

On this topic, interpretations should be fairly standard. The rules are the rules.

That's what we do... but our personal bankers do not sell NDIPs, and it's like 10 feet between her desk and the teller line.
