MattB - We have the same rage going on here. All I hear about is Advocare. People are paying $250 for the 24 day plan including the pills, drinks, etc. But then get roped into continuing to pay more after the 24 days for the pills and drinks. It's a lot cheaper to just go run, work outside around the house, any kind of physical activity and eating healthy. I don't see why all of these people get roped into the quick weight loss to just gain it all back plus more. I just quit preaching about it and laugh when 3 months down the road all of the ladies that talk so much about it gained all of the weight back. Yea it's taking me awhile to lose the weight I want to but I know I'm at least trying to work it off the right way and keep it off.

Now if I could just give up beer I'd do a lot better!!!!

Because it's easier to give up money for a quick fix than to do the hard work for a real gain.

People just don't want to understand that to be healthy, you need a healthy life style, a permanent change in how you look at things.

If this program gets someone motivated with results and they then go off and start doing things to keep the weight off...well maybe it's worth it, but I don't expect that will be the case for most of them. You can get a gym membership and time with a personal trainer (even a hot one if you want!) for less than that per month, I guarantee it!

Where I am supposed to be
The big one around here is Body by Vi. It is a shake system that costs around $250 per month initially. I have always thought that changing eating habits and getting moving were the best, although it is not always easy for me to get and stay motivated which is where having this community is such a help.

I've seen that one advertised around town a bit as well.

We've had an explosion of work-out places in the last few months, not sure if that's been happening a lot of places or if it's just something weird going on here. We've got Farrel's, Crossfit, Max10, Kosama, and at least a couple of others that have all set up shop in the last year or so.

They're all the intense workout type programs, the boot camp type stuff etc. Cardio, resistance bands, kettle bells, all of that stuff. It's interesting to see how many people around here are trying them out. It'll also be interesting to see how many are still around by the end of the year. smile

I keep seeing Crossfit gyms popping up everywhere. Looks like boot camp on steroids! (Of course, part of me is just jealous I can't do all that stuff, and can't afford to go there.)

Crossfit works. So does Les Mills Pump. SO does running and TRX and power bands and yoga and even the stupid Total Gym! But only if you do them! smile
If it keeps you interested and active go for it! If doing a cleanse helps get you started! Great! But lasting results is all about consistency. Eat well most of the time, work out on a regular basis and you will do fine.
If want to take it to an extreme (Jen, TJ smile ), Go for it! Thats great too.
But plan on it for life and thats what you'll get!
Like I say, you can exsist on a couch, but you cant live on it! smile

Ab-rocker does not work, either does ab-lounge. (though the lounge can be used as a hammock!)

I really need to raid the in-laws basement. They have 90% of the stuff you all mentioned gathering dust as we speak...

Hopefully Jen and TJ aren't among that 90%!

We have several things in our workout room here that were the "as seen on tv" type contraptions that people bought for themselves and ended up donating them to the cause here (but it just ends up sitting in a corner getting dusty without it costing rent!).

But, it's given me some resistance bands and other things to work in to various routines, so it's worked out in that respect!

Had an 18 year old Private try to use his dog tags as ID once.....ummmm...no. smile

One "As seen on TV" gizmo I actually like is the "Ab Wheel". A wheel or pair of wheels with a simple handle or axle through the middle. It really works the entire range of abdominal muscles, obliques and seratus!
There is one caveat. You kind of need strong abs and a good back. Otherwise you could get a boo boo. smile

Saw on a CTR a week ago under the identification section, Other: Gun Permit. Cracked up! They filled out the DL stuff too, but I don't know why they thought that was relevant or acceptable...(Training issue?)

And on the ab wheel, you can also run around with that as your front wheel and "ride" it down a flight of stairs. You may be able to picture something like this in your head, I promise it's more hilarious in reality! Muscles are kind of like money...it's easier to get more when you already have some!

Got all the rules and junk for the race Saturday, I'm not as excited as I originally was. It really seems much more tailored to the "have fun and don't worry about time" type participants. The three events are time blocked, not consecutive, so there's periods of rest in between. The tire flip isn't 25 yards down and back, it's just one length for each person. The cement block carry thing requires you arrange them with the painted side up to make a picture. The 5k run is done at the same time as the people just doing the 5k run/walk event, so many more people, and all four people have to be within 50 yards of each other for the duration.

I don't think it will be near as challenging as I was hoping for, but am trying to get to a "fun" mentality about it now!

Make sure you yell nonsensically at them as well while you step over their bodies.
