Race day tomorrow. And in honor of knowing that I will finish, I already bought me a new pair of running shoes to celebrate. . . . and break in for the Brewers Mini in September.

I'll be wimping out and riding a short distance tomorrow in my event, so my hat's off to you. I hope your time is acceptable and motivating, and I hope you enjoy it!

Finished in 1:10:13!!! I'm proud of that time as that is pretty much my pre-injury pace from a few months ago. I'm still a bit stiff, but we'll let my PT deal with that this week and I've learned a few things with this race that I'd need to work on if I commit to the Brewer Mini (half) in September.

Pedaling along a scenic highwa...
I think success is in how happy you are with your time and how your body feels afterward. Sounds like your weekend was a success!! Congratulations!!

My mind was changed for me after I signed up for my event. The distances were listed incorrectly on the registration form, so the 33 miler was no longer an option. I thought about doing 24 but signed up for the 38 mile ride.

Then, with peer pressure being a key factor, I didn't turn off to follow the 38 mile route and instead opted for the 46/53 mile routes. Of course, peer pressure still being a factor, I made the turn to follow the 53 mile route.

I definitely was not ready for a 50 miler and my body let me know. I didn't have cramping problems, but fatigue set in with the hills and strong headwinds on the added-on portion of the race. And, the longer I rode, the hotter it got...

The 53 miler actually measured 56 miles (go figure) and the last rest station was at 50 miles and on Ft. Sill. When I stopped for my last breather/refuel, I was informed that the gate for the route was being closed and that they were picking up remaining riders, so I didn't get to finish. I had JUST started feeling a little cramping in my quads over the last 5 miles or so, so I accepted it and was happy with having ridden 50 miles. My time was horrible, because I was completely gassed for the last 15 miles I rode and my pace was very slow...very often under 10mph. My finishing time was right around 4 hours, 45 minutes. I was using MapMyRide on my Droid, but the battery crashed at mile 45, so my ride was not completely monitored and I don't have an exact finish time.

Next race I'll cap out at 40 miles and see how the body feels during the late stages and afterward, and I'll go from there. Finishing prior to triple digit heat is in my best interest. smile

A friend of mine also rode the 53 miler. He finished in 3 hours. I have a ways to go. smile

HHH for me will be something more like the HH50, if I'm able to keep working out. I'll shoot for 50, though.

Is this the same "Summerfest" thing that the Foo Fighters are going to be at Thursday?

Yup. The Rock n Sole kicks off Summerfest, which starts on Wednesday. My 5 year old wants to go see Fun. Would I be a good parent or a bad parent if I took my 5 year old to Summerfest on Friday for a 10pm concert of one of her favorite bands at the Miller stage and didn't bring her home until after midnight?
