I am trying to determine the aggregate geographic distribution of loan data for all lenders (life the examiners always do in the deographic distribution of loans section). I am out on the ffiec website and in the hmda aggregate section but cant make any sense of where the information on how many total home mortgage loans were in each tract.

i know this is a very broad question but if anyone has any advice that would be great

Go to ffiec.gov. Under Consumer Compliance, click on CRA for the small business/small farm loans. Then click on Aggregate Report on the left hand side. Highlight the state and pick whether you want to look at the County or the MSA. Then highlight the county or MSA that you want to view and click on Retrieve Tables. You will need to have your pop up blocker turned off or it will not come up. Then highlight Small Business Lenders in area - Originations and click on Retrieve Report. This will give you a list of all the lenders and how many loans they made including your own. Then you can add them up and find out what percentage of the small business loans in your area are yours. Do the same for small farm.

For HMDA, I do not use market share. I look at how many owner occupied dwellings are in each tract and compare the percentage of our HMDA loans that were made in each tract. You can find that information by going to the main page of FFIEC and clicking on Census Reports. Then you can click on your state and county or MSA. You can cut and paste these into Excel if you are doing it manually and sort and subtotal to get your information. Hope this helps.
