No, I actually think we are talking about the same thing...I put on bulky (visible) muscle very easily...with little effort, so I have to be careful with the type of exercise I do.

Psh!! What's wrong with that? How else are you going to scare away swamp monsters? A gun show is the easiest way.

And if you sink into the sand up to your elbows, those push-ups are going to be mighty easy too. You might be able to catch up on all the ones you've missed this year!

If you're wondering, to date if you've done all push-ups, we've done (at least) 4,095 already.

Never give up, never surrender!

Today starts our Spring into Action wellness challenge. Pick the beginner, intermediate, or advanced track, throw in your $5 entry fee, and you've got to the end of the month to complete five of the seven goals. Those successful are entered into a drawing to win the pot for that challenge level. Last year I won $70 laugh

Advanced level:
300 jumping jacks
70 planks (30 seconds each)
350 push-ups (I royally lol at this)
400 burpees
700 squats (under heavy protest that an "advanced person" would be doing weighted squats, and 700 is a ridiculous number, yet I refuse to do them unweighted)
1000 crunches/crunch-like exercises
Or 70 miles of cardio (run/walk/elliptical, or 140 on a bike)

It's weird, I'm not sure how they came up with the numbers for those particular exercises! Some seem backwards compared to others. crazy

Should be a walk in the park for you tho...who 'audits' the authenticity of the accomplishments, tho?

Well, I'm on the wellness committee, but with 5 women (only one of which is particularly interested in fitness), and they didn't really want my input on how to set the numbers up. I handle all the incentive program reporting, the intranet site, and most other "technical" aspects, and leave the creativity mostly to them.

Audits? Haha. We don't even require people to do their jobs correctly, much less expect proof beyond the honor system when they turn in their sheets showing what they did each day. We of course reserve the right to audit, and if we've got a person who takes three breaks going up a flight of stairs saying they did 70 miles of cardio and all the rest, we might balk a bit...but generally people have a decent level of integrity in these programs.

And yes, a couple of the categories I'm halfway through, on day 1 smirk I'm pretty sure I could do the jumping-jacks in one set!

Just for grins, post the beginner program. I'd like to see it and picture it compared to some people I know who won't even climb stairs...well, maybe if the incentive was high enough...like maybe cheesecake at the top?

Beginner:
150 jumping jacks
50 planks (30 seconds each)
150 push-ups (I royally lol at this)
200 mountain climbers
300 squats
500 crunches/crunch-like exercises
Or 50 miles of cardio (run/walk/elliptical, or 100 on a bike)

They've got 5 weeks to accomplish this. Break it down and the numbers are very minimal. Last count I heard, we had about 20 people in across the three categories, but there were hopefully a few additions on the last day to "enroll".

Ok...so they have 5 weeks to do 200 mountain climbers? For some dumb reason I was reading this as all in one day.

Exactly. Then the advance crew gets burpees instead. 80/week of those is a lot different than 40 mountain climbers/week, and disproportionately harder than some of the other categories.

I could rant a lot about the lack of common sense applied in this, but it's one of the few wellness initiatives of the year that actually involves a physical challenge that takes some effort, so I won't complain too much. It definitely reaches a different crowd than the healthy eating type of "challenges" does.

Some of it is a pretty simple one day deal, some of it is likeley to cause a sore spot.

Last year it was based off of a program at a local gym that one of the committee members borrowed. I think the "beginner" level is reasonable, but they/we didn't scale it properly. Oh well, still got 25% participation, which is pretty normal, and the program doesn't cost the committee anything to run smile

So what are the numbers for the intermediate track? I would like to try to get the ladies here on board for this. We started our "Bank on Wellness" program today and I need points towards the "get moving" activities.

BBB, you should've asked and I'd have sent you the tracking sheet we already have and could've saved you 5 minutes to instead spend on push-ups!

Cabo:
250 jumping jacks
50 planks (30 seconds each, not sure why they didn't increase this number to 60)
250 push-ups
300 mountain climbers
500 squats
750 crunches/crunch-like exercises
Or 60 miles of cardio (run/walk/elliptical, or 120 on a bike)

Not that any of us would aspire to try anything but the beginner but I can show them what others are able to do. Thanks!

The 6 minute one was one moment in time in 2012...or was it 2013. I also had a boring edition of the Credit Union Magazine to look through and keep me occupied. I haven't tried to see how long I can plank, but we do plenty in core, TRX, and Insanity.
