How about you just come train me? That would be all-around more productive for me! Only two of the five of us are runners, but in a 5k with 20 obstacles...running is pretty much irrelevant. They'll be racing, so it won't be a group effort. I'm planning on suggesting road beers during the 2 hour drive to the event...I'll offer to DD of course Few things in life are more satisfying than kicking the carp out of someone 10 or 15 years younger than you....

Last night I saw a video of some pro football players playing a game they called "Danney Ball" that involved heaving a 10lb medicine ball back and forth over a volleyball net. It looked like an incredible workout. Given all the bumps and bruises I had after playing regular volleyball with the kids on vacation, I think I will skip Danney Ball....

Tossing it back and forth....no big deal. But spiking it......!??! Now that would be impressive! Are you ready for the HHH? I'm still vasilating on it. I've already got so many races this summer.... I know about 6 people that are going to do it and all of you will never let me hear the end of it if I dont.

It is only going to be 103 in Wichita Falls today, but that hot breeze coming out of the dessert will dry you out!

Well, the specialist says I have neuromas in my feet (I tried to clarify and ask if he didn't actually mean aroma). Something goofy with the nerves that go to my toes. Inserts with cushion in the balls of my feet may work, otherwise a one-time steroid shot to each foot that may fix the issue, or may just cause tendon damage. Last option, surgery to remove the offending nerves. That, or dill with it!

Given those options...dilling with it is probably the best one.

Matt, look at Morton's Neuroma on the internet. Its fairly common in runners. There are lots of tips out there on how to help deal with it, if it that is what they think you have. Also, when it somes to sticking needles in or slicing things up, I might want to ask for a second opinion....just in case.

Yes, I definitely have some research to do on the topic to figure out what's recommended. I see no reason to seek any of the more extreme treatments at this point, it doesn't bother me enough to be worth the cost/danger of it. What I'd really like is to find out a way to ease up the sweating during the summer runs! It was 82 this morning (humidity very high) and I had to cut it short and only did 3.5 miles (time constraints, freaking hot, and I wasn't feeling it) and in that time I dropped 3.3 pounds, mostly from my forehead I'm pretty sure!

I'm kinda use to running in the heat (actually enjoy it), but I hydrate the heck out of my body. Water and gatorade both. Its just a daily ritual with me. In the low 90's I'm good for about 10 miles. In the 100's I stick with 5K's. I'll do longer rides on the bike, but I carry water with me and top every 20 miles for a water break, to reload the water on the bike and stretch for about 5 mminutes.

I'll take 40 over 80 any day. I might go slower, but I can stay alive a lot longer!

Actually it was only a few guys, but they were really big! The mayor did start an program about that time. Sort of a city wide "Biggest Loser" sort of thing. Its been pretty successful.

Yeah, I'd say a trip to the South Side is fairly adventurous these days.

I'm only a few towns away from Livingston, and I have a question - does Weight loss City mean we had the most people who used to be overweight? Sounds kind of silly to me.

Got steamrolled during football yesterday, his knee connected right above my kneecap (thankfully they didn't hit I guess), and I pretty much got his shoulder in my face. On the bright side, no cosmetic damage . My leg got pretty swollen and it looked like I had two kneecaps for a while. Got pretty stiff and couldn't bend it very well last night. Ice, elevation, yada yada. I can walk on it alright today, stairs are still slow though. Neck's pretty stiff, so I'm hoping that wears off in the next couple of days! Last game of the year, I guess it's better than happening at the beginning, but it definitely interrupted my running this week, or for a few days at least .

Yeeouch! When you had the swelling, was it just above the kneecap? If it hits just right, you can get some patellar displacement and stress the origin of that ligament. If that happened, its not a huge deal. It will heal just fine as long as you give it the chance. So I'd go easy on the knee for now if it were me.

As I look at it, it's above the patella and to the right. The bump of swelling didn't reach to the kneecap itself, but around the edges of the patella it's a bit tender. It does appear to be firmly in place, but that doesn't mean it is.
I didn't run today, won't be tomorrow. Thursday I'll be back hopefully, and will have to be back for volleyball at least!
And we got slaughtered in the game, but me being injured played no part in that!
