We make a donations to the Red Raider Club and a portion of those funds are used to support scholarships for student athletes. I have been trying to determine how many of the scholarship athletes at Tech are from low to moderate income families. The income level of $43,840 represents 80% of the median income for Lubbock. The problem is that these athletes are from numerous cities and towns in Texas, so trying to determine their income level based upon their hometown is going to be difficult. With this in mind, is it appropriate and acceptable to use statewide income information to qualify the scholarship athletes as low to moderate income?

Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Is the income info available inasmuch as these skulls full of mush are on athletic scholarships?

Have you asked the athletic department for household income for the families? Maybe they have stats on how many were on free and reduced lunch in high school. But you have to be careful there because there are a number of cities in West Texas that have a higher income eligibility for the National School Lunch Program than 80% of the average median income reported by the FFIEC. So you can't use the free and reduced lunch percentage as a proxy for LMI. This is the case in Odessa, Wichita Falls, and perhaps Abilene.

Thank you, Pale. We'll check on that.

Any other thoughts out there? We're about to have an exam in January.

Thanks in advance for your help.
