Ok, I'll just say that I was raised to open the door for a lady, help a lady with her chair, stand when a lady aproaches and to tip your hat or take it off for a lady. (Yes, I'm really that old) Over the years, it has become obvious that fewer men have been taught to this and equally, ladies have not been taught how to expect it or to accept it. And that's fine I suppose. But I have never understood how the simple act of saying "thank you" for an obvious act of civil kindness went out of style.

I won't deny doing my share of leering, but I wasn't in either of these instances, and I'd like to think that I am fairly discrete about it. I'm also not considered strange or creepy, as far as I know. These were innocent, hold the door, let the woman pass by, out into the parking lot where we would be going in different directions. I understand the woman who don't want me following them up the stairs, but these two, I don't get. Leering, staring and "checking someone out" is only a problem if the target of such activity doesn't also find you attractive.

I just see holding the door for someone else (man or woman) as being polite. There's nothing wrong with that, and yes, you should always say Thank You.

I was merely surprised that women would refuse the jesture. The women that walk through and then don't offer a simple thank you or at least a nod or a smile; that bothers me.

I was merely surprised that women would refuse the jesture. The only logical explanation is that these ladies were hoping to discretely leer at you, and allowing you to hold the door would have messed that up. Much the same as you always insist on allowing an attractive lady to go first on the stairs... In fact, I guarantee that as you walked away, they said "I don't hate to see him go, but I LOVE watching him leave."

I wouldn't worry about it, most people I know would appreciate the gesture. Get out! It had EVERYTHING to do with Bucs!
