Is it necessary to update W-8 forms if they have not expired or there has not been a change in circumstances? Our outside auditor is recommending that we get updated forms.

Apparently your outside auditor has nothing better to do then to create busy work for you. Maybe you should invite some that will look for ways to make you more efficient during their audits the next time you send out your outside audit RFP.
