Are there many free OFAC seaches online?

NASD has one - http://www.nasdr.com/ofac/ - but this will only catch exact matches.

Then there is Instant OFAC - http://www.instantofac.com - This catches fuzzy matches, and checks for updates before every search. Actually quite good (for the price!!)

Are there any others? There are many small businesses that could benefit from such resources. I'm sure no sites will search through a bulk list or anything...

Thanks

Somewhere
Why not just go directly to the Treas website, go to the PDF file of the actual SDN list and use the "find" feature and enter the name and search. Any hits will pop up. And it's free! Here's the Site

Well, mostly becasue you will not catch things with spelling variations. Try this in the pdf document:

ISLAMIC JIHAAD

Then try it at:

Instant OFAC
Bridger

I just would not want to explain to OFAC that a payment went out just because of a common spelling variation!

Or try:

M CASTRO
OSAMA BIN LADEN

You get the idea.

To answer your question, I did my best ot find others, but I think there are only three that allow unlimited free searches. In my opinion, from best to worst:

Instant OFAC

Bridger

I think the NASD one works no better than just doing a search on a PDF file. Instant OFAC seems to catch misspellings better (especially if YOU mistype something), but can be a bit sensitive at times. The Bridger one seems to be a shade un-sensitive (I know it's not a word!), and may let a couple real positives go.

I am going to send an email to Instant Ofac to ask for a time stamp, a printer-friendly results page, and a dtaestamp of when the database was updated. Then I think it will be a great solution for anyone who has a low to medium volume of names to check.

FYI. Go to OFAC Searches

The last section deals with searches, downloading OFAC info, etc. It may or may not work for you, but it's worth looking at.

Found another one:

http://www.brownandcompany.net/ofac/search.asp

Says:

Quote:

To search the database, enter the first few characters of the individual or organizations name or alias. All names that begin with those characters will be listed for you to review.

And another:
http://www.ion-aml.com/gus/searchSimpleView.do

This one is super slow. Also has too many false positives. Offers a download of an xml version of the latest sdn list. I still don't know why one would use xml for database purposes...

Improvements at www.instantofac.com. Looks like a redesign (who cares!) but more importantly, they implemented a Printer Friendly results page - looks nice, and has timestamp. It looks like you can also change the sensitivity of the results too.
