Undercover agents were able to sneak fake explosives and banned weapons through Transportation Security Administration checkpoints, in an investigation that revealed a massive, system-wide security failure at America's airports.
The findings were part of a DHS inspector general probe. The report is still classified, but Fox News has confirmed the investigation found security failures at dozens of airports.
Homeland Security officials confirmed to Fox News that TSA screeners failed 67 out of 70 tests -- or 96 percent -- carried out by special investigators known as "red teams."
In one case, an undercover agent with a fake bomb strapped to his back set off a magnetometer -- but the screener still failed to find it.

Wait, so an undercover agent walks through security with a fake bomb strapped to him? Am I the only person thinking this is a bad idea. Imagine if he had been caught and a poorly trained security officer itching to pop off a round was nearby...
I am sure there are precautions to prevent but still, some people have a shoot first ask questions later mentality. It must obviously be fake.

I am sure there are precautions to prevent but still, some people have a shoot first ask questions later mentality. It must obviously be fake. Think about that the next time you request vacation time.

I have a 3 inch titanium plate in my right calf, just above the ankle. The last time I flew, I went through the whole body scanner. They told me they had to pat me down.
And then they proceeded to pat down my LEFT calf above the ankle. I don't know what they thought they saw, or if they got it backward, but it didn't fill me with a lot of confidence.

video of the fake bomb I saw looked just like plastic explosives with a fuse timer inserted into it...TSA agent patted and wanded right over it (this was before full body scanner) and passed the guy. He then identified himself as TSA undercover and lifted his shirt to show it and the agent again patted down and said "well, now that I know what to feel for..."
talk about an oops moment...
of course, the video was on the CNN website, not sure if we can consider that a reliable news source or not...I've lost track

My lawbreaking wife keeps smuggling small bottles of handlotion on the planes without putting them in a clear plastic bag and removing them from her carryon for the TSA. I've told her when they slam her against the wall and handcuff her, she's on her own. I'm not missing vacation.

I practically got thrown to the ground and cuffed because I forgot I had two cough drops and a tube of chapstick in my pocket when I went through the screener.  I've never forgotten to check my pockets since then!

Acting Deputy Director Mark Hatfield will take over the TSA until a new acting administrator is appointed. Earlier this year, President Obama nominated Coast Guard Vice Admiral Peter Neffenger to be the TSA's permanent administrator. snipped from Fox and local radio station is reporting that this reassignment comes with a promotion and salary increase...go figure
