When we moved into our house last year, we made the rounds of our immediate neighbors and those across the street. Every single one of them was really suspicious like we were bill collectors or something, didn't offer last names, let alone a pie! We've been there over a year now, haven't had a conversation with most of them since then, just the guy we share a fence with once in a while.

QCL, if they don't graciously accept a pie, they can shove off! I'd stop by on a Saturday afternoon, or some time you see people out and about. Of course, if they're cradling the shotgun when you're heading up the lane, maybe don't push it.

Not Walden but I'll chime in. Our neighbors are about 1/2 mile away. I planned on taking over a pan of brownies and introducing myself a couple weeks after they closed on the house. They took a rather unfriendly stance so I decided against it. I do think 2 weeks is an appropriate time frame. Take them a dessert and welcome them. Sounds really nice!

Yes, take over your apple pie and welcome them to the neighborhood. It will make them happy unless they are from mars or something......

Y'all are so trusting. I would never eat something made by a stranger, even if they live in my neighborhood.

as I was still moving in, stuff in my truck, movers finishing up, the retired lady accross the street brought over homemade blueberry muffins

I'm normally skeptical but I figured it was from an old lady and I really like blueberry muffins so I dug in, they were awesome

In the few years I've been there she has left homemade cookies in my mail box (delicious) and walked over with a fresh homemade apple pie one other time

I happily snarfed all of it down, in fact, I downed the whole pie in one sitting, it was my entire dinner that day

oh, and I let her have some plants that were overgrowing around my house that she replanted by her house

When new neighbors moved in behind us a few years ago, my wife took over cookies. The woman grunted something and closed the door in my wife's face. She has never spoken to us, not even "hi". I've gotten the husband to say a few words.

Just the opposite with our neighbors next to us. My wife baked cookies and took them over. They thought that was nice, so they made us cupcakes. Then they thought we shoveled their snow (must have been the neighbor on the other side) so they baked us something again. Since we didn't deserve it, my wife baked again. At that point, the two women got together and agreed to put an end to the baking before we all gained 20 pounds.

Other than the one neighbor, everyone is friendly. It's common to help each other shovel snow. Everyone waves if you drive by. We have a neighborhood facebook page and a website, and those help people to get acquainted.

Seriously though, they bought the house 2 summers ago, and were renting it out. They come out to the sticks once a month to check on the property, and so we have met them and they are not total strangers, but now that they're officially part of the neighborhood I wanted to do something nice.

A now there's another guy in Texas, who, three days after the 4th, was drinking down at the ol' fishin' hole and decided to set off a 60 gram shell off his chest. Search for 60 gram shell on youtube and you'll understand why he's no longer with us.

I've seen where the mother of the first guy is now advocating for regulations on selling these products. While this is an incredibly tragic event (or events adding the guy in Texas), I don't think having any sales regulations would necessarily stop future tragedies.

Call me crazy, but you can't stop stupid.

My brother found out you can make a very intense explosive out of nothing but sparklers and tape... there is a four-foot diameter hole in his back yard. (one of his friends brought this knowledge, and executed the plan, viewing was from a safe distance and nobody was hurt)

Regulation is useless. Fireworks are illegal in Illinois, and yet my wife and I stood out on our deck and watch fireworks being shot from a half dozen locations within a quarter mile. You'd need a few hundred cops in town to try to enforce the ban.

Googled the 2015 Louisiana quarter. That pheasant looks ultra creepy!!
