As a security officer, I am responsible for keeping records of testing, inpections, equipement, and all security devices, robberies, etc...

I have not found any guideline for how long to maintain these records. My bank has them back to 1979????

Kirchman "Big Orange Book" says "unspecified" on page 5.72, in the FDIC section, on thier Record Retention table. Have any of you had a recent FDIC exam that examiners, or maybe seminar instructors, commented or recommended a time period that made common sense???

I just looked at the OCC's audit procedure worksheet and it states the documentation must be maintained, but it does not state for how long. Since BSA requires a 5 year retention schedule, I would say 5 years unless you find out differently.

Opinions are mine not my employer.

Maria's opinion about five (5) years is appropriate. Generally, the statute of limitations for filing civil actions regarding most perceived acts of negligence is three (3) years -- but you should still check with your state to see if there's a difference. I also suggest that you videotape and narrate your inspections -- and then keep the tape for the same time frame.
