http://www.marketwatch.com/story/get-ready-to-share-not-just-the-road-but-the-car-2015-12-14Private car ownership is on the road to becoming a rarityThe utopian picture painted by the author may appeal to many but I am grateful that I shall have the liberty to maintain vehicles of my own and drive myself for as much longer as I have need of vehicles. Not much consideration is given to those of us in "flyover country" in this piece. West central Texas isn't Beijing. The author is short-sighted if he thinks that people will relinquish freedom of movement in such a way. Or, perhaps people don't value liberty as they once did. Besides, I'm one of those "flat-earthers" the author derisively refers to and one who intensely disliked the picture painted in Orwell's "1984."

wonder if the author is the same who predicted that the global warming would render the planet unlivable by 2015.

In a place where everyone of driving age owns a car, (households may even have more cars than drivers) and public transit is for people that have lost their licenses due to OWI...no, I can't imagine such a reality.

well, i'm no less than 12.5% utilization of my car daily, and it is usually more than that. if I lived in a major city with great public transit, i'd be all for getting rid of it...but won't work in my neck of the woods...

There is absolutely no way I'm giving up my car, especially my "fun" car. NO WAY.

My uncle has a country place That no one knows about He says it used to be a farm Before the Motor Law And now on Sundays I elude the eyes And hop the turbine freight To far outside the wire where my White-haired uncle waits
Jump to the ground as the turbo slows To cross the borderline Run like the wind as excitement shivers Up and down my spine But down in his barn My uncle preserved for me An old machine For fifty-odd years To keep it as new Has been his dearest dream
I strip away the old debris That hides a shining car A brilliant Red Barchetta From a better vanished time We'll fire up the willing engine Responding with a roar Tires spitting gravel I commit my weekly crime
Wind In my hair Shifting and drifting Mechanical music Adrenaline surge
Well-oiled leather Hot metal and oil The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome The blur of the landscape Every nerve aware
Suddenly ahead of me Across the mountainside A gleaming alloy air-car Shoots towards me two lanes wide Oh, I spin around with shrieking tires To run the deadly race Go screaming through the valley As another joins the chase
Ride like the wind Straining the limits Of machine and man Laughing out loud with fear and hope I've got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge I leave the giants stranded At the riverside Race back to the farm To dream with my uncle At the fireside

Two and two here, but they're both heavy gas-guzzlers so do I get extra credit?

2 divers and 5 cars... on that note, anyone looking to buy a car or 2?

I haven't had a car for about 4+ years, going on 5. Other than driving at 120 on the Thruway, I don't miss it.

I could never, ever live in NYC, or not own a car for that matter. Maybe when I'm old an senile, which is rapidly approaching, but until then I'll be doing 120 on the Thruway for you, ACBank.

I'm not ready to give up my car. I like driving, whether it's just around town or across the country.

Well if we're counting anything you can drive then I have to add my husbands Husqvarna riding lawnmower and his tractor. Oh yeah there is also my grand daughters battery operated four wheeler.
