Lost in a regulatory fog
It was announced on Dec.14, 2015 and the released in the Fed.Register on Jan.14 that Hamilton County would be suspended from the NFIP on Feb.3 if they failed to make needed corrections. My understanding is the reason for suspension was they had yet to accept the revised maps.

Anyway, I have not seen anything saying they did make the corrections, but determinations we pulled yesterday and today still show as a participating community. I left messages with the FEMA contact from the suspension publication and with the Regional office to see if the suspension was revoked, but haven't heard anything.

Anyone have any info.?

I guess I should have been more patient. blush

The regional office just got back with me and told me all of Hamilton County except the City of Lakesite accepted the new maps into their ordinances, so Lakesite is the only one suspended.

Don't quote me, but I think they do a separate announcement when a community is officially suspended. I took the Dec 14th announcement like a NPRM.

I thought so too, but when I re-read it the announcement it said
"We recognize that some of these communities may adopt and submit the required documentation of legally enforceable floodplain management measures after this rule is published but prior to the actual suspension date. These communities will not be suspended and will continue to be eligible for the sale of NFIP flood insurance. A notice withdrawing the suspension of such communities will be published in the Federal Register."

Of course the problem with the above government logic is the Fed. Register notice withdrawing the suspension is obviously going to be too late to be of any help. I didn't see anything in the notice about a confirmation of suspension, but I guess there could be an informal announcement. confused First time I've ever had to deal with a Community being suspended.

The final rule doesn't get confirmed later, and I have never seen (but haven't looked for, either) any "never mind, we didn't mean it" notices when communities have returned to compliance before or after the "execution date."

You can always keep on eye on it here:

In the case above, the City of Lakesite complied as of 02/03/16.
