Currently our bank does NAICS codes on Commercial (Business) customers and also on Consumer loans. When I inquired about who they put the NAICS code for on a consumer loan the husband or wife my answer was the one first on the loan. In my past life we only used them for Commercial loans pertaining to the industry.... They say they use these for their concentrations of credit how does other banks use NAICS codes?

Individuals, other than sole proprietorships, do not have a NAICS code. They are for business customers only. There are codes for several different types of medical businesses, but there is no code for a doctor. The same is true for butchers, bakers, and candle stick makers.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics has codes for occupations.

Old thread, but is the NAICS code on a loan supposed to be for the type of business or to indicate the purpose of the loan? Say a farm is buying investment property, would you use an NAICS code to indicate the type of farming or investment real estate?

It is for the business but if they are buying investment property they are not a farm.
