Pulling people out of the ditc...
and I've yet to see the final MASH episode...while I've seen likely every other one 3 or more times

Happy - I believe it was the most watched finale in TV history - and I've seen it several times.

I remember that day clearly. A local station was going to show the original MASH movie during the afternoon movie slot. The power went out 10 minutes after the movie started and it didn't comeback on until 5 minutes before the MASH finale. A couple of years later we were visiting the Smithsonian and it had a whole area dedicated to MASH.

Way, way south.
My favorite MASH episodes were the very first seasons with Trapper John and Lt Colonel Henry Blake. Those guys were absolutely the best, and even Frank Burns was the perfect foil.

From the first season:

Lt. Col. Blake: They taught us two rules in command school. Rule #1: in war, young men die. Rule #2: doctors can't change Rule #1.

FINALLY ABOVE the gnat line
I have seen every episode including the finale more than once. I watched the finale when it originally aired. A local radio program was running contests all week. I won a MASH poster for knowing the name of the theme song.

But do you know the words? At one time I actually had the sheet music with all the lyrics...

http://www.lyricsfreak.com/j/johnny+mandel/suicide+is+painless_20801409.html

Through early morning fog I see
Visions of the things to be
The pains that are withheld for me
I realize and I can see

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

I try to find a way to make
All our little joys relate
Without that ever-present hate
But now I know that it's too late, and

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

The game of life is hard to play
I'm gonna lose it anyway
The losing card I'll someday lay
So this is all I have to say

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
And to another give my seat
For that's the only painless feat

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

The sword of time will pierce our skins
It doesn't hurt when it begins
But as it works its way on in
The pain grows stronger watch it grin, but

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

A brave man once requested me
To answer questions that are key
Is it to be or not to be
And I replied 'Oh, why ask me? '

That suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

'Cause suicide is painless
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please

Hubert de Givenchy, French fashion designer. I've never been big into fashion, but it's hard to deny the iconic looks he created for Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy.

I tried to read A Brief History of Time when I was in high school, but I didn't make it very far. Unfortunately, more people my age (millenial) probably know him from his cameos on The Big Bang Theory than for his actual accomplishments.

The Theory of Everything did a lot to bring Hawking's life in front of millenials and the public at large. He was an amazing man who accomplished so much, most of it after his ALS diagnosis.

I didn't know this tho: "At the release party for the home video version of the A Brief History of Time, Leonard Nimoy, who had played Spock on Star Trek, learned that Hawking was interested in appearing on the show. Nimoy made the necessary contact, and Hawking played a holographic simulation of himself in an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1993. The same year, his synthesiser voice was recorded for the Pink Floyd song "Keep Talking"."

Nor did I know he had his voice copywrited and "due to the American accent on his voice synthesizer, many people have no idea that he was really British. He has said he would like to replace it with a synthesizer with a British accent, but he had become so synonymous with his that he knew he couldn't."

Lots of interesting quotes from him here. I especially like the one about computer virus.

I also think his birthday being the same as Galileo's death day and his death day being both Pi Day and Einstein's BD is pretty cool.

I do not think that he would have liked his death day... at least in this year.
