I am relatively new to CRA and I am now trying to figure out the PPP loans and how they work for CRA Purposes. I have read some of the threads and the FAQs and want to make sure I am understanding it. If I have PPP loans that are not in our assessment areas, can they still be considered for credit, or are they thrown out just because of the assessment area?

You can get credit for PPP loans outside your AA under 2 circumstances: (1) if you can demonstrate the loan(s) impact your AA (say a hospital that is just outside your AA but serves people in your AA and (2) once you have demonstrated you have done a satisfactory job of CD activity within your AA you can use credit for activity outside your AA toward an outstanding rating
