We have an account that has dad, mom, and son as account owners/signers. Mom and dad come in with daughter recently to add her to the account. Son did not come in with them at this time. We require new account documents be completed and signed by everyone. Mom, dad, and daughter sign the new signature card when they come in to add daughter and son was supposed to come in and sign the new signature card shortly there after. It's been a couple of weeks now and son still has not come in to sign. When we contact the parents and daughter they are no help and will not give us a good phone number for the son and they act strange and refuse to ask him to come in and sign. It sounds to me like there may be issues between them and the son. My question to everyone is....how would you handle this? My thought is, our procedures require a new signature card signed by all owners/signers when the change was made. Since we do not have that, then we should revert back to the original signature card that we have on file and remove the daughter from the account. If the parents want the daughter on the account and not the son, then they can come in and close their current account and open a new account with the daughter. (we do not allow someone to be removed from the account).

Thoughts? Just wondering if I'm on the right track. I don't believe we are ever going to get the son in to sign the documents.

Thanks!

Either revert back to the old set-up or if the account is marginally profitable, close it and cut them a check and let them take their family issues elsewhere.

For us, any changes made to owners/signers are not effective until all signatures have been obtained. If this were an account at my bank, the account would continue to function with dad/mom/son until son has signed the new docs. Daughter would have no access to the account and anything signed by daughter would be returned until all parties have signed. If there is some sort of familial conflict, I would give mom and dad the option of opening a new account with them and daughter.

Thanks Randy.....I think reverting back to the original set-up is our best option. I just needed someone to agree with my thinking! smile

MightHaveBenHur - this would be ideal, however, we have to make the change in our system to print the account documents out. Technically, we shouldn't have made the change without the son here, but of course, we don't always think about these things ahead of time. frown

I appreciate both of your feedback!
