not where I want to be
Customer is asking for a UPIC, which we do not offer at this point. Does anyone here offer this service and is it worth it?
What business line would typically work on implementing a product like this?

It is just an internal operational issue, I think. The bank is the one that gives them to the customer, and you have a cross reference inhouse that points the ACH credit transaction to the actual account number. Check to see if your ACH processing system supports them.

Pulling people out of the ditc...
UPIC is a trademark product offered by The Clearing House, the private network ACH provider. If you are not a member of TCH, you won't be able to access. UPIC can also be used for wire transfers, as long as your system can perform the translation from the UPIC number to yoru internal account number.

Fed has been reportedly working on a version of their own for 5+ years, i don't see it ever coming online.

That's not to say you couldn't develop your own internal version of something like this...
