Loved chatting with him on BOL. Hope he's doing well in whatever industry he's in!

I'm not sure about BB, but I do occasionally wonder what happened to some of the "Old School" BOL posters.

a good number have retired, a larger number have left banking for the consulting world, or left banking for other pastures, we've lost a few to the great beyond, and others just don't really come here any longer or do so infrequently

ME!
Many years ago, I gave my wife a rose tree for an anniversary gift. While planting it, my wife got some soil, rolled it into a ball and handed it to our 5 year old daughter. The kid stared it it with a quizzical look - wife replied, "your daddy is older than that!"

I work from home and my wife wishes I had an office to go to.

Back at it. Retired for 3 years and came back to help a bank with loan admin. I'm enjoying it.

Sometimes retirement is different than anticipated. I retired 3 years ago and do not regret it or miss compliance. So many changes and my 60 year old brain wasn’t as quick as it had been and after 42 years in banking I was tired. Had a lot of personal losses in the past 3 years, including my sister and our pups.
I do, however, still lurk around. Funny that I still see questions posted today that were posted years ago…

I am glad to read that you have retired with no regrets and that you don't miss compliance.
I used to get peeved that questions posted here when I started with BOL 20 years ago still pop up. But it's because there is turnover in staffing -- some from retirement, some for other reasons -- there are always going to be "newbies" who bring those "oldies but goodies" questions back.

John, a huge :-)
A agree 110%, unfortunately, with (some/most) of the old questions and answers, the laws (and or interpretations) have changed so many times that the original answers are outdated and no longer valid.
Sometimes when a question is regurgitated from years past, and you're reading the original responses and one is yours, you just hope that no-one recently read and used it because the law changed XX years ago.

While I concur with Happy in that once I am out, I am out (No Godfather III for me). I know a number of compliance/RM professionals who have retired and now work for banks with unique arrangements. This may be fully remote, work part time while being paid as a full time employee, or something similar.
Once you are in a position of FU, you really can negotiate much harder.

Once you are in a position of FU, you really can negotiate much harder. I have my current job because I failed at retirement. I got bored. However, because I knew I could remain retired, I negotiated a much better package - full-time remote, extra vacation days, better pay - which works out very nicely for work-life balance. Next time I retire, however, I will be out of here to be full-time grandma.

I've still got about a 12 year ride before retirement, but I stay so busy on non-work days I highly doubt I'll have enough free time to be bored. I absolutely love working with my hands and being outside. Most weekends I still wake up before 8, and during the spring, summer, and fall, most times I'm out the door and not back inside until supper time. But I'm always within earshot of the wife and kids.
If I had the financial means to do so, I'd be retired tomorrow.

Most weekends I still wake up before 8, i rarely sleep past 4:30 AM, no matter what day of the week it is or when i go to sleep the night before...a "late sleep" for me would be around 5:45 AM...

Sheesh. 7:30 - 8:00 is plenty early enough for me!
