I don't know about you, but I'm looking forward to November 3rd. The pools will be closed, the campaigning will have ended, and although the election results won't be final, in fact they may not even known, the campaigning will have ended.

These last few weeks in particular I seem to be hearing less and less about what a candidate is going to do. Instead there seems to be a barage of negatively focused advertisements that tell why the opponent is bad.

Unfortunately this campaign tactic is not limited to just the Presidential race. It is also prevelant in Senate and House races and State races as well.

Why do we tolerate a society that thinks that the way to win is not in emphasizing what we can do, but rather emphasize why the opponent is bad?

I'm glad to live in the United States of America. I believe it is the finest country on the face of the earth. I will vote on November 2nd, because it is my honor, right, and privilege to do so. Regardless of the outcome of any of the races being contested, I will support the winner. My energies will be spent on working in a positive manner to improve and initiate action that I am passionate about, rather than expending the energy in a negative or non-productive manner.

Very well said! You can't even turn the TV on anymore. The political advertisements are just awful. I totally agree with you. November 3rd can't get here soon enough.

Then we can have a month's worth of discussion about the results...

I have a suggestion to avoid this: If those of us who are sick of it stay out of those threads then there will only be 3 people posting to them. The funny part is they all agree with each other. So the threads will die off quickly because there will be no arguments.

Actually it will probably be long after November 3rd that we know the results of the election.

First of all, the Democratic Party has hired tens of thousands of attorneys to question the results if they are close, and has made it clear that they intend to call for recounts even on states that don't appear to be that close. Unfortunately, the Republicans will probably follow suit and do the same to keep their wins.

Secondly, the official voting by the electoral college does not take place until December. If the vote is as close as expected, the electoral college may not elect the president this year.

If neither candidate gets 270 electoral votes, which is quite possible, We will have to wait for a special election which will be performed by the House of Representatives, and an election by the Senate of the vice president.

It is possible that we may end up with a republican president and a democratic vice president this year....

When I read or hear things like this, I almost think that it doesn’t matter who wins. This has become a joke. I am a Bush supporter, but now I don’t even care.

You don't care because your single vote is more important than ever?

Please, tell me they won't be closing my pool. We're still having highs in the 80s. They shouldn't close my pool until the highs are only in the low 60s on a regular basis

The pools (& polls) will be closed. The party has been crashed.

I agree - it can't come soon enough. I'm tired of all this negative stuff. Plus, maybe these threads will get back to normal (whatever that is).

Like the Frost/Sessions ads around here? Boy, I don't want to send either one of those guys away as the winner.

One is so far right, even I can't vote for him and the other one is a lying liberal. Carson's entire campaign has been lie after lie about his record and his opponent. The other one endorsed Alan Keyes for president. The Republicans picked the the wrong guy. Should have been Kirk Humphries out of OKC. Probably would have beaten Carson easily. Oh well, it will be over soon.

Agree but for a different reason - after work today I'm off to training to be a precinct judge in one of the most hotly contested areas of THE battleground state that has just about ceased broadcasting anything BUT political ads. Rumors of voter fraud abound, and lawyers and poll observers are gathering; two lawsuits made national news.

I'd hoped to just be worried about 2 things - sincere people creeping within the 100-foot barrier defining a "no-campaigning" zone, and so many people in line inside the polling place that we won't be able to keep those in line at least 10 feet away from those voting.

Instead, I'm wondering whether I should bring cameras to record potential wrongdoing - update - no need. Thanks to our tax dollars, extra staff will be available to handle any problems.

Of course I'll have a phone available to call other election officials or - law enforcement? - as needed. update - our tax dollars are paying for an extra pollworker at each location, and a multi-line phone bank.

I'm planning on carefully checking all signatures against either ID (required for new voters) or signatures on file. I'm planning on asking my co-workers to bring dishes so that we won't need to leave for lunch or breaks. Any other tips?

You bet I'll be glad to wake up Nov. 3, and I pray that all of the victors win in landslides!

Hey, it could be worse. You could be in New Jersey. We will have an acting governor soon, one that we have had no opportunity to vote upon, because of the machinations of our ethically challenged current governor. Yes, that's right: he still has not officially submitted his letter of resignation.

Unless Edwards runs, with Hillary as VP. By then Bill Clinton will be running the UN as well...
