no, it's a motown song.
i just realized that someone was going to put that after i wrote it. thanks for your help though!

it goes, "na na na, i need someone to help me with this here.." and then the background singers join in, "na na na..."

Is it maybe "Love Machine" by the Miracles?

I'm just a love machine
And I won't work for nobody but you,
I'm just a love machine,
A huggin', kissin' friend.

I think it's high time you knew,
Whenever I think of you,
My mind blows a fuse.
When I look in you eyes,
My meter starts to rise, and I become confused.
My voltage regulator cools,
When I'm sitting next to you,
Electricity starts to flow,
And my indicator starts to glow - wooo

[Chorus]

Na, na na na na, na na na na, woo-woo-wooo
Na, na na na na, na na na na, na naaah

[Chorus]

I'm gentle as a lamb, I'm not that hard to program,
There's no way that you can lose,
My chassis fits like a glove,
I've got a button for love,
That you have got-to-use.
If you look into my file,
I am sure you can find out how,
To turn me on just set my dial,
And let me love you for a little while - ooh

[Chorus]
Na, na na na na, na na na na, woo-woo-wooo
Na, na na na na, na na na na, na naaah
[Chorus]

I know which song you mean and I'm drawing a blank too. I asked the tellers too. They know it was like a one-hit-wonder and it was no one famous... great now my brain is hurting.

How about this?

Sweet Soul Music
Arthur Conley

Do you like good music
That sweet soul music
Just as long as it's swingin'
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Out here on the floor now
We're going to a go go
Ah dancin to the music
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Spotlight on Lou Rawls y'all
Ah don't he look tall y'all
Singin' loves a hurtin' thing now
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Spotlight on Sam and Dave now
Ah don't they look boss y'all
Singin' hold on I'm comin'
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Spotlight on Wilson Pickett
That wicked picket Pickett
Singin Mustang Sally
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Spotlight on Otis Redding now
Singing fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
Fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa
Oh yeah, oh yeah

Spotlight on James Brown now
He's the king of them all, yeah
He's the king of them all, yeah
Oh yeah, oh yeah

What about this:

R.O.C.K. In The U.S.A.

They come from the cities
And they come from the smaller towns
Beat up cars with guitars and drummers
Goin crack boom bam
Chorus
R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.
R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.
R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A., Yeah, Yeah!
Rockin' in the U.S.A.
Said goodbye to their families
Said goodbye to their friends
With pipe dreams in their heads
And very little money in their hands
Some are black and some are white
Ain't to proud to sleep on the floor tonight
With the blind faith of Jesus you know that they just might, be
Rockin' in the U.S.A.
Hey!
Voices from nowhere
And voices from the larger towns
Filled our head full of dreams
Turned the world upside down
There was Frankie Lyman-Bobby Fuller-Mitch Ryder
(They were Rockin')
Jackie Wilson-Shangra-las-Young Rascals
(They were Rockin')
Spotlight on Martha Reeves
Let's don't forget James Brown
Rockin' in the U.S.A.
Rockin' in the U.S.A.
Hey!
Chorus

Oops! No Motown. No Na Na's! Maybe you're right elena.

Here is another song with James Brown, but no Na Na's...

The Police - When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What's Still Lyrics
Words and music by Sting

Turn on my V.C.R.
Same one I've had for years
James Brown on the Tammy show
Same tape I've had for years
I sit in my old car
Same one I've had for years
Old battery's running down
It ran for years and years
Turn on the radio
The static hurts my ears
Tell me where would I go
I ain't been out in years
Turn on the stereo
It's played for years and years
An Otis Redding song
It's all I own
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
Plug in my M.C.I
To excercise my brain
Make records on my own
Can't go out in the rain
Pick up the telephone
I've listened here for years
No one to talk to me
I've listened here for years
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When I feel lonely here
Don't waste my time with tears
I run 'Deep Throat' again
It ran for years and years
Don't like the food I eat
The cans are running out
Same food for years and years
I hate the food I eat
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
(Verse 1: Repeat fading)

(EDIT: It's the TAMI Show, not the Tammy show. -Z-)

I did not think of that. Good Old Wilson Pickett--the Wicked Mr. Pickett. I'll bet that's it.

Thanks for the offer, but that's quite alright just the same. Unless of course, you can sing like Mr. Pickett.

It's called "Kiss Him Goodbye". One of the versions is done by the Nylons (a capella), but that is not the original.

The original artist was Steam in 1969. Go here. Also, if you google "Kiss Him Goodbye", you get a lot of hits for it.

Sorry, I didn't notice that somebody beat me to the punch. The version by the Nylons is excellent, by the way...even more up-beat than the original.

Fraud Pup, that is the song that blind guardian specifically excluded from his search. The song he was looking for definitely was Land of a Thousand Dances by Wilson Pickett. What a great song!

All that work for nothing.....twice. That's what I get for not reading carefully.

I do love the Nylons' version of the wrong song, though.
