We are currently looking into DVRs to replace our VCRs. Would anyone have any suggestions on which brands are favorable? Our vendor is pushing the Lanex system, but I would like to reseach this issue further.

I've reviewed a couple of brands, and the difference between them is minimal. Oftentimes, it will come down to which brand your vendor can get at the best price, unless you're looking for strength in one particular feature. If you're looking to compare multiple systems feature-by-feature, first prioritize your goals. Image quality, storage capacity, ease of use, network accessibility, and archiving options are typical key considerations.

I do not discuss the specifics of our equipment in public, but if you would like info on another DVR brand for comparison purposes, PM me and I can give you some additional information.

We have had 2 Lanex units at branches and they are working great, no problems at all. Really nice to be able to pull up video from my PC at the main office - no tapes to fast forward and rewind. Wish I had 20 more of them!

We are just beginning to use DVR in our organization as well. I agree with Jac, you need to prioritize which features are the most important. I have found storage capacity to be a big issue; we currently have one system which was only holding on to 18 calendar days (the problem was corrected). Ease of use with the retrieval system is also important, as well as the support available should you have any problems using the retrieval system.

If you have not looked at NAVCO (North American Video)I suggest you consider doing this.

I have been a NAVCO customer since the early 1980s when I converted from film to video. I have nespaper clippings in which the police praised us for the quality of the pictures we provided in robberies when other banks had none. This quality has carried into their color digital series.

Anyone wanting info please pm me.

I'm not sure of the actual DVR units we are using at our branches (I'll check), but my interface is Honeywell. It's pretty nice. I, too, enjoy being able to pull up live video as well as archived video for all 20+ branches without leaving my desk. DVR is wonderful

We elected to go with Lanex after considering at least four other vendors. At this time we are up to about 50% of our 100 plus branches being on DVR. Video recording equipment is maintained until broken or new branches opened. We also use a number of the small, inexpensive IP addressable cameras in branches that do not have DVR so we are able to look in live at the branch on that one camera. They are not recorded. These are viewed using our network.

We use the IRIS system which is endorsed by the New York State Bankers Association. They actually give you rebates after installing the system. We are happy with the results to date.

If you DO decide to go with Lanex, spend the extra money to get their "HealthCheck" software. It will help prevent those embarrassing breakdowns at the worst time. I was viewing one of my Lanex DVR's when the hard-drive tanked. Good thing I was on it at the time, otherwise it might have been days, weeks, or a robbery before I knew it went down.
