At your bank, who/what department is responsible for giving employees keys to buildings. Who is reponsible for getting those keys back when the employee leaves? What if the employee leaves without returning them?

It is our HR division that handles it. Only officers are issued keys, we've never had one leave without returning the keys. Even if they did, they would be removed from the alarm code, so if there was a breach, it would be short lived (we are 2 blocks from the police station).

Our Security Officer is responsible. We have electronic access for all employees and actual keys are given only to officers. If an employee other than an officer leaves we simply delete them from the access system and they are not able to get into the bank anymore. If an officer leaves, we rekey all the locks and hand out new keys.

Security here too. Elecronic card access is the way to go. We are in process of converting all the branches over right now. Total access control for all employees, different access levels depending on need and time of day, logs of all activity, and the ability to remove an individuals access with a few keystrokes... What's not to like? We issue keys to certain officers of course.

Only a very few have real keys and they are senior management. The rest of us have passcodes for the keypad. It tracks coming and going by date and time and blocks access for those not authorized to be in the building before or after certain hours.

Our Security officer also takes care of issuing keys to employees. We make sure we get the keys from the employee during their exit interview.

Amendment to my earlier post...officers have keys, but also have an electronic pass card to get into the building. We use both, with the door remaining key unlocked during the day, but key locked at night. The passcard lets you in by your designated time only. The reason we have a keylock as well is that if we lose power, the electronic card does not work.

we use a b/u generator as well, but in the event of a serious disaster, our generator only has 72 hours of diesel. if a serious hurricane hits, we could be down for a significant time at our main site.
